Okatse Canyon: Georgia's most spectacular hanging walkway

The Okatse Canyon, located in the Imereti region of western Georgia, is one of the country's most impressive natural wonders. This canyon of steep walls, covered in lush vegetation and carved by crystal-clear waters, has become one of the most visited nature destinations in the Caucasus.

The hanging walkway: the main attraction

Okatse Canyon's star attraction is its hanging walkway suspended over the void, about 20 metres above the canyon floor. This metal structure, several hundred metres long, lets you literally walk over the canyon with panoramic views of the cliffs, vegetation and the river flowing below. An experience that stays with every traveller for life.

Flora, fauna and canyon biodiversity

The canyon walls and floor harbour exceptional biodiversity: giant ferns, century-old trees, lichens and mosses that create a cool, humid microclimate. The fauna includes numerous bird species, endemic butterflies and insects typical of Caucasian forests. It is an ideal spot for nature photography enthusiasts.

How to get to Okatse Canyon

The canyon is about 20 km from Kutaisi, Georgia's second city. You can get there by taxi or private vehicle. From the park entrance there is a marked trail of about 4 km to the start of the walkway.
